In neighboring Indiana the battle wages on over
informed consent to an abortion.
Class can we say it together?
"Women do not have abortions because we are bored."
We know what we're doing you stupid fucks.
Some may ask why the march is important. Here are a few responses I give people:
1) It's an election year. Politicians listen harder during election years, as sad as that is. Not only will we be voicing our concerns to the Bush Administration, but also to a Congress that passed an abortion ban, state legislatures that pass anti-choice laws, and speaking for every woman who can't be there.
2) The war on women's bodies is not just a woman's war. It is a concern for every father who wishes his daughter had better access to medically correct sex education, freedom to access reproductive health care without hurdles, and hopes that his lil girl won't ever have to wonder how she's going to get an abortion now that it's illegal.
3) The administration is not just targeting our wombs folks. They target our lungs by allowing more air pollution. They target our pocketbooks when they go after overtime pay. They target our medicine cabinets when they go after Medicare. I can go on and on, but just think about how the current administration & Congress is gunning for you. The march is one way for all of us who are getting screwed over to get together and yell NO!
4) The abortion debate has been moved from discussing women's right to choose to fighting for the rights of a fetus. We need to move it back to focusing on the woman. I've felt the wonderous movement of a fetus playing kickball with my ribs. I never want that feeling to be forced upon a woman, ever.
5) Reproductive choice is not just about abortion. It is about access to contraceptives. Access to all contraceptives - no matter what our insurance company says - give me the pill, device, surgery that my doctor/midwife and I have decided is best for me.
So why is it important to you?

"There is growing evidence," said Sedlak, "that more and more of those who participate in providing abortions are suffering psychological harm."I'd have to agree, but not in the way that Mr. Sedlak is thinking.
I volunteered for our local Planned Parenthood clinic that provided abortiosn for about six months. I still have nightmares (so to speak) about my experience.
I have cold chills go down my back when I think of the fear that the young women felt about the possiblity of raising a child alone, without the right resources, without a partner.
I get sick to my stomach when I recall the young woman who was fearful (that's an understatement) that her mother might find out she was ever at the clinic. Why can't we have more open discussions about abortion? Why can't more moms be more open-minded to the discussion?
The fear that oozes out of the waiting room is not fear of abortion, fear of guilt, but a fear of the unknown. Will my parents still love me? How can I avoid from having to be in this situation again? Why did he say he loved me, but then ran when I got pregnant?
We can't have a real debate about abortion if we keep telling people that they must feel guilty, that their psychological problems are a result of an abortion, etc. etc. etc.
If I were at this expo, I'd stop by and let Mr. Sedlak know that my experience at an abortion clinic only strengthened my resolve to fight stupid fucks like him.

Bush Seeks to Hasten Abortion LitigationGuess the Prez wants to get right to the nitty-gritty on the law. I bet Karl R0ve is hoping that this gets sorted out before next years elections. Will we let it die, folks? HELL NO!

I've finally decided based on my own local organizing for the
March for Choice and
Cinnamon's offer to make
purses for the March that we needed a gathering point.
If you will be attending the
March for Choice (or send in money to support it) I want to know! We can meet up at the March, look for each other, and raise hell together.
So send
me your name, URL, and what town you're coming from. Who knows, maybe Cinnamon won't be able to knit another item because she'll be too busy with purses. *grin*
