Funniest opening today
By CHRIS SUELLENTROP in the New York Times:

Brownback to presidential mountain: I know how to quit you.

Sorry but I'm moblogging so I don't have a link nor have I read the whole thing. But it made me snort. OK...here's the link. Sadly, the rest of the piece isn't as funny. Except the part where pundits are trying to figure out where Brownback's less than 2% is going to land.

Bye-bye Brownback!

End of summer

Means the start of fall!

After baseball season, fall is da bomb. Things I love about fall:
• cool breezes
• wearing jeans & light sweaters
• start of football season
• World Series (some years with faint hope of seeing my Cubbies there)
• back to school clothes/supplies/school
• relief from uberhumid days & frizzy hair
• and pumpkin spice lattes!

Annie's second fatality

Annie's second fatality
Originally uploaded by roniweb.

Sadly, this is what we came home to tonight. The hubby kinda splurged on these shoes (not too much, but in that "I already have enough black shoes" way) so I know he's not going to replace them. Hmmm...Birthday present? He'll be 35 in less than 2 months. THIRTY FIVE!! Dear goddess, I'm gonna be married to an old man.

Air & Water show
I sit here on my couch listening to the roars of jets above. Yesterday while at work I saw them zipping by. Until 6 years ago I looked up in awe. To be able to fly, move that fast is only a dream. That others get to live it is beautiful.

Or at least was.

Now I am torn. Now when I see the jets I think that mothers in Iraq fear the sound. That children in Afghanistan play under these jets. And protection is not why they fly. Destruction is their only vocation.

Perhaps there is protection in destruction, but I can't see that today. The women trapped under the Taliban did ask for help but not in the form of bombs. And certainly not so that in 5 years for their daughters to be just as trapped.

I still think the jets flying in formation are beautiful. But I also see thru the commercial.

I'm such a sap
I'm watching the HBO special on the US women's soccer team. And yes I'm crying. No this isn't the first time I've seen it. I love everything about this documentary. I especially love when they talk about balancing motherhood with soccer. Ella asked me why they had a baby with them. I got to tell her that one player played soccer then had 3 babies & after each one she went back to playing soccer.

That's what we mean by positive role models.

4 am cab
Of course it doesn't come until 4:30 AND then there's a crash on LSD which adds at least 10 mins to my ride. Did I mention my flight is at 6:10? Thank the goddess for SW's online check in & carry on.

On to Detroit!
