Did you know Dora has bumps on her chest?
Well she does and Miss Ella thinks they are boobs.

There we are, the four of us on the couch. Hubby wrapped up in his iPod, me trying to work the Sudoku, and Miss Ella examining Dora's chest and then her own.

"Mom, Dora has bumps on her just like you!"

"Um...."

"See..." Ella lifts Doras shirt and yup, she's got pre-boobs. Not flat-chested like other girl dolls, she's got the muscle where every kid has muscle on their chest. In the eyes of a 4yo, chest bumps. "And I have them too!" she cheers as she lifts her shirt.

"Um...no. What mommy has are called breasts. What Dora has is muscle and that's what you have too."

"But mommy, I have these too!" she says pointing to her nipples.

*Mommy sighs...big time*

We then go on to have a very basic talk about boobs and how Ella will get them once she starts to become a woman. "So I'll have them when I'm six?"

"Dear lord, I hope not!"

"What about when I'm ten?"

"Maybe. Sweetie, you'll grow up when it's time. And let's not rush it. It's really not all it's cracked up to be."

Somehow I got the subject changed and all was good again.

I did get my first bra around 9 and with the media talking about girls hitting puberty earlier and earlier, I keep thinking that if we can get to 8 without having to buy Ella a bra, I'll be happy. Oh dear Goddess, I will be eternally happy.
