Wha???
Today Ella got the brilliant idea to take her step stool and start pulling down things that I keep out of her reach on top of her dresser. I only figured this out when she walked over to me and asked to help put on a necklace. I saw it and thought, "Where did she get this?" It was gold and with a price tag still on. I don't wear gold necklaces. Hmmm...

I walk over to help her put it on when I see it. A small gold urn hanging from the necklace. Yup...she had pulled my mom's ashes down and wanted to wear them.* I quickly told her this wasn't for playing with, closed the velvet case and put it away. Of course she asked "Why?" I just said, "I'll tell you later."

By later I mean in many more years.

Part of me is crying and part of my is laughing over this. I'm mostly laughing. I guess that's a good sign. But can you imagine if she had somehow smuggled that to school? Oh, how to explain that to the teachers!

*For new readers and those who have forgotten, after my mom died, my sisters & I each got necklace urns with a bit of her ashes. My dad got the larger box urn. My younger sister use to wear hers all the time, I haven't seen it lately. But it was a nice cross that no one would suspect was an urn. Mine is an urn. Totally obvious. Hey, the funeral home didn't have a goddess to put the ashes in!
