Blog for Choice Day - January 22, 2007

Instead of trying to write something brilliant here for the Roe anniversary, I'd just like you all to go over to brownfemipower's casa and read her entries from last weekend's National Advocates for Pregnant Women's conference. Gawd, I wish I had been able to go. Especially to meet bfp. Maybe she'll come down for the SisterSong conference. Eh?

There is also this great piece in the Wichita Eagle on late-term abortions. Never thought you'd read that line, eh? Knowing a few of the feminists in Wichita, nothing surprises me anymore.
Miriam Kleiman and her husband spent hours choosing a wallpaper of stars and clouds, a coordinating border and the perfect shade of pale lemon yellow for their baby's nursery. It was summertime, and Miriam's belly bulged.

It was that time when "everyone knows you're pregnant," she remembers. "The mailman, the dry cleaner, the people at the grocery. They all ask 'When is the baby due?' 'Are you excited?' "

She was.

Then, in her 28th week of pregnancy, doctors told her something was wrong. Her baby was going to die.

A doctor gave her a slip of paper with just four words on it:

"Dr. Tiller. Wichita, Kansas."
