What will it take now for the WNBA to turn a profit and the women to make decent salaries?
I don't know why the media is so eager to put the nail in the WNBA coffin. As this article points out, the entire payroll & cost of running the WNBA can fit inside rookie LeBron James' pocketbook. The boy can afford to pay every player, people! The media likes to gawk at how NBA owners cry about their losses. Well, if they are willing to pony up $14 million a player, I think an average $1million loss to each owner is well, nothing to cry about. Yes, there are 14 WNBA teams and thus each cost the league $1 a piece.
Commissioner Stern is right to point out that it took the NBA 25 years to reach the 'pathetic level of attendance' that the WNBA plays in front of. Yeah, that was my sarcasm, not anyone's direct quote.
I do think and have total faith that by the time Paris is in high school, the WNBA will be such an event that Paris & its friends will laugh at us for questioning the WNBA's success. If something doesn't have testosterone, boobs, or beer in it, it doesn't fly very quickly in our society. So why doesn't the media go fuck off or write up a nice piece on some of the rising stars. Instead they write pieces trying to hurry the burial of the WNBA and suck on the cocks of Michael Jordan (MJ, want an MJ?), high school kids, and other over-hyped men playing a boys game. If newspapers & media outlets gave half or hell, 1/4 of the energy to hyping WNBA players, the outcomes just might be getting better.
I'm just plain tired of this crap. Women need to succeed right out of the gate. Men like
Grant Hill can sit on a bench for years and years, not playing even close to his potential and well, no one really cares. ARGH!!
