Feminist Musings

So my cable company finally gives me Oxygen TV. Not that I really wanted it, but a friend of mine was on it for awhile and I missed all her appearances. I also know that they bought the rights to Xena reruns, which I dearly miss. The sucky thing is that they are on at 10 am and 5 pm!! Like I'm home then? Argh...well I guess the awesome SAHM's need something good to watch other than Jerry Springer & soap operas. From what I know of my godson's brothers, 10 am is just about when they nap.

I have been watching a bit over the weekend to get a handle on this network that was supposed to be the feminist network. It started off ok...it had a news show, but I think that's all gone. I did find one show that I'm embarrassed to admit to. Egads! It's like watching one of those stupid men shows, but this time it's women being stupid. *sigh* I think I may lose some feminist points over this. But it's just too damn funny!! I am happy to see that one of my fave shows, Kate & Allie is on the network! I have to start getting up early, but hey, I think they're worth it.

As I mentioned last week, the hubby picked up the DVD of Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. We watched the deleted scenes and I have come to the conclusion that George Lucas is a sexist pig. Ok, wait...before you take away my YODA altar let me explain.

Almost all the deleted scenes pertain to Padme & why she fell in love with Anakin. They were the scenes from the book that I felt was soooo missing from the movie when I first saw it. If you don't have the DVD, rent it and see for yourselves. One scene is Padme & Anakin at Padme's parents' home. They scene was done well and gave us a peek into how hard Padme was fighting to *not* fall in love with Anakin. Another scene allows Padme to verbalize that she had pictured herself in a different place - a mother, a wife.

I know that the whole idea of the Star Wars saga is to tell the story of Anakin Skywalker, his rise, his fall, his redemption. But I firmly believe that knowing the whole story helps us understand more. Am I the only one who thought, "How can this smart woman fall in love with this spoiled brat?" OK, maybe I'm too much of a dork to really pick this baby apart. But I'll stand firm that almost all of the deleted scenes would had added more to the myth of Darth Vader than the sheep-riding scene. And people hate Jar-Jar.
