We're back!
Saturday I went to a pre-school fair and I know that I'll need to vent my frustration and chronicle my insanity as the hubby & I get Ella into pre-school.
Here's a summary of our situation:
* In Chicago, we can go to the local public school...but most pre-schools are targeted towards kids who are at risk, IOW, poor kids. We can try to get her into a tuition-based preschool in the Chicago Public School system aka a non-local school that we can buy our way into, get into a magnet school aka the school for smart &/or lucky kids as you can only get in via a lottery, private school, or a religious school. Guess which one got tossed first?
* So to get Miss Ella into pre-school in Fall 2006, when she'll be 3, we have to apply sometime in December. It varies by school.
* To get an application, the hubby &/o I have to attend an Open House. They are normally scheduled for Tuesday mornings. Nice, eh?
* After the application, if the school wants us, we have to go thru an interview process. They will see how well Ella plays with others, they will see how well the hubby & I fit into the community.
* Of course, the daycare Ella attends will keep her until she's 5, I think. But to get into a good elementary school, you often have to get in at 3. So that leaves us with the question: What the hell to do with Ella for the summer!?!
So now you know why I restarted this blog. Goddess help us!
I'll not name schools, but will post a glossary on the sidebar so you can keep track. Give me a few days to get this baby rolling. It will also be my way of making sure I stay on track in the application process. As the hubby said, "This is way harder than applying for college." Hopefully we'll find the right school and won't have to go thru this until she's ready to apply to high school.
